I started with Amazon MTurk in July 2018. At first, I thought it was a cool way that I could earn some pennies and I set a goal to make enough to cover a pack of cigs a day that I was smoking. Then it became a hobby. Now I have quit smoking and turkin’ is my new addiction.
Here are some things I learned on my journey about MTurk as a NewBee, bzzzzzzz.
Approval Rating and Rejections:
When you start, you may not realize initially how important rejections are on your Turkin’ journey. They affect your Approval Rating so rejections are a big deal. Rejections are the devil when it comes to this rating because Requesters set qualifications such as “HIT approval rate (%) is greater than 90” or “HIT approval rate (%) is not less than 90”. There are variations of approval levels that Requesters set. So don’t jump on every HIT you see. It takes alot to climb back out of rejection hell. I figured it takes around 1000 approved HITs to bump your Approval Rating just .01 percent.
Here are some of the Requesters that I stayed away from once I realized they were killing my Approval Rating:
- p9r – Attractive HITs because they put out a lot of work and it seems quick and easy. But they are rejection happy in my book. I stopped doing these HITs quickly when I realized they were killing my approval rating.
Penny HITS: You can start your journey and improve your Approval Rating with penny HITS. Penny HITS will start to boost your number of approved HITS which is a good goal to start with. Although they boil down to a pathetic hourly wage, they serve to increase your numbers. The more HITs you do, the quicker you will become qualified for better-paying HITs. This is because Requesters set qualifications for the number of Total approved HITs. Not less than 100, 500, 1000, 5000 etc. are some of the thresholds you can shoot for.
Here are some of the good Penny HITs to keep an eye out for:
- Amazon Requester Inc. – Rekognition Team
- Amazon Requester Inc. – A9 —>This requester releases huge batches, jump on these HITs to boost your numbers.
Masters Qualification: Becoming a master is akin to becoming a unicorn. A quick google search will yield a ton of results on forums that will explain how getting this qualification is a mystery.
